Get Britain Working

What is Vedhas Doing to Help?

Vedhas Limited is now actively partcipating in the “Get Britain Working” scheme in Luton and throughout Great Britain. We have made over 60 positions available for work experience in Luton alone.

What is "Get Britain Working" Scheme?

The UK Government is introducing a series of measures to help people in Great Britain move into sustained employment. Collectively these are known as Get Britain Working (GBW). The Work Programme (WP) is the contracted element, aimed particularly at those who have been unemployed for longer and/or face greater barriers to work.
Meanwhile, the ‘pre-Work Programme’ includes (or will include) the following key elements of provision:

• New Enterprise Allowance (self-employment option) to be available nationally by autumn 2011, which will offer business mentors and financial support up to a value of £2000 to customers who get their business plan approved.

• Working Together (volunteering option) Jobcentre Plus is working with the voluntary and community sector locally to ensure that more opportunities are available to help the unemployed develop new skills and confidence.

• Work Experience (initially for young people) for young jobseekers (18-24) who are 13 weeks unemployed.

• Work Clubs (community–led activity) this is about the development of a network of community-led hubs (some already in existence) for the sharing of skills and experience that can help people progress towards work.

• Enterprise Clubs (community–led activity) As per Work Clubs, but focussed on the promotion of self-employment.

• ‘Service Academies’ (pre-employment training option) designed to encourage pre-employment training and work placements in key employment sectors. Scotland will run pilots aimed at assessing the fit with existing pre-employment provision through Training for Work.

DWP also funds the Work Programme. This refers to the DWP's contracted elements of provision for the unemployed/inactive.

These are:

• The Core Work Programme, which is for a range of claimants who are long-term unemployed (i.e. somewhere between 3 and 12 months depending on circumstances). The programme is to be gradually introduced across Great Britain during the Spring/Summer of 2011. In Scotland, it will be delivered by two Prime Contractors: Ingeus UK Ltd and Working Links, with referrals split randomly to begin with. Provision will last up to two years, with contractors rewarded on the basis of results

• Work Choice, which is for disabled people and replaces the existing WORKSTEP and Work Preparation programmes and the Job Introduction Scheme. The programme commenced from 25 October 2010 across four package areas in Scotland.
